You’re wearing ten hats. Let us take the grant-writing one off your head.

Based in Kansas City, Missouri, McGee KC Consulting serves as a practitioner-led partner for social service leaders who are ready to move from the "grant-chase" to long-term stability. We bridge the gap between the heavy realities of direct service and the high expectations of funders by applying 30 years of social work leadership to your organization’s strategy.

Who We Partner With

We specialize in supporting established 501(c)(3) organizations, typically those with three or more years of operation, that have proven their community impact and are ready to invest in a sustainable, diversified grant portfolio. Our expertise is specifically tailored to visionary leaders tackling the complex challenges of housing instability, food insecurity, domestic violence, mental and behavioral health, reentry, and youth development support.

Beyond the Grant-Chase

By focusing on mission-ready operations, we transition your organization into a managed, 12-month strategic system that replaces the stress of unmanaged deadlines with the peace of a partnership that truly understands the grind of the nonprofit sector. This shifts your focus from chasing one-off awards to building a reliable engine for growth.

Our Practitioner-Led Services

McGee KC Consulting removes the burden of grant writing and grant management, so your team can focus on serving the community rather than chasing funding.

Stop scrambling. Start scaling.

The Capacity Crisis

You have the mission and the local demand, but you lack sustainable funding to scale your impact. If you are an Executive Director losing sleep over a client's housing while struggling to find time for a grant strategy, you are missing the internal "machinery" required to pursue major funding.

The Transformation: Programmatic Integrity

We leverage 30 years of social work practice experience and our proprietary Nonprofit Wellness Audit to move you beyond "band-aid" awards. We don’t just write; we build the operational stability required to win and manage high-stakes funding for homeless shelters, food pantries, domestic violence shelters, mental and behavioral programs, and reentry services.

The 12-Month Managed System

For less than the cost of a temporary intern, we implement a professional, year-long funding strategy. We replace the stress of unmanaged data and time stolen from your mission with a consistent revenue stream designed for social service nonprofit organizations. We move you beyond the hunt for one-off awards toward a managed approach that secures the funding your impact deserves.

Stop the grant-chase and return your focus to the mission your community depends on.

Grant Readiness

Most nonprofits assume they’re ready for grants, but even the best programs go unfunded without the proper infrastructure. Funders don’t just look at your mission. They examine your capacity to manage funding, measure impact, and sustain programs.

If your organization isn’t grant-ready, it could delay access to funding opportunities by years while other organizations with stronger infrastructure move ahead.

Our Grant Readiness Audit identifies what’s missing, what needs strengthening, and how to position your social service nonprofit as a top funding candidate. Instead of wasting time on unsuccessful applications, let’s ensure your organization is fully prepared to win grants now, without unnecessary delays.

Strategic grant research and funder vetting for social service nonprofits

Grant Prospect Research

Not all grants are created equal. Applying for the wrong funding opportunities can waste valuable time and resources, leading to frustration and rejection. At McGee KC Consulting, we take the guesswork out of finding the right funders by conducting in-depth grant prospect research tailored to your nonprofit’s mission, programs, and funding goals.

Grant prospect research saves time by allowing social service nonprofits to focus on funders who are the best fit rather than blindly applying to every opportunity. It increases success rates by ensuring applications are well aligned with funders’ priorities, making them more likely to be funded. Understanding a funder’s giving history and priorities strengthens relationships, helping nonprofits build long-term partnerships beyond a single grant. Additionally, a targeted funding approach reduces grant fatigue by preventing burnout from applying to every possible grant and ensures more efficient, strategic use of resources.

Let’s find the right funders for your nonprofit! Our expert prospect research team provides you with a clear, strategic roadmap to funding opportunities aligned with your mission.

Grant Proposal Writing

A well-written grant proposal is more than just an application; it’s a compelling case for support that convinces funders why your social service nonprofit deserves their investment. At McGee KC Consulting, we write clear, persuasive, and funder-focused grant proposals highlighting your organization’s impact, sustainability, and alignment with funding priorities.

Our approach goes beyond filling out forms. We tell your nonprofit’s story in a way that resonates with funders, blending data-driven insights with emotional impact to create a powerful narrative. We ensure every proposal is tailored to the specific funder's guidelines while maintaining a strong, authentic voice for your organization. Whether you need a first-time application, a renewal request, or a major competitive grant, we provide the expertise to craft compelling, well-structured, and highly competitive proposals.

Are you ready to submit winning proposals that stand out? Let’s collaborate to craft applications that speak to funders and drive results.
